Lapides is an traditionally trained documentary photographer with a contemporary multimedia sensibility. She has always used words to enhance her stories, seeking out and creating innovative ways to blend words and still images to create moving, educational testaments to honor the stories of women and children around the world.

Recent software developments have made such blendings of the written and spoken word with still photographs possible at an exciting professional level. Recent collaborative photographic/multimedia projects which Lapides has created using such programs are being used by non-profits such as the Family and Intercultural Resource Center of Summit County and the United Somali Women of Maine to engage their communities in stimulating dialogue about critical social issues. These projects have received grants from The Big Sky Institute of Montana, The Maine Women's Fund and The Maine Humanities Council and been shown on local Public Television stations and at community meetings, conferences, film festivals and in the public schools. Sample clips from these projects will be available on the site at a future time.
